Spin-off bedrijven
De faculteit Luchtvaart- en Ruimtevaarttechniek is de laatste 15 jaar erg succesvol geweest in het genereren van spin-off bedrijven. Inmiddels zijn er al meer dan 30 opgericht.
Spin-off bedrijven zijn belangrijke partners voor de faculteit omdat ze vaak een specifiek vakgebied verder technisch en commercieel helpen ontwikkelen. Als er bijvoorbeeld halverwege de jaren negentig niet zoveel bedrijven waren geweest die met thermoplastische composietmaterialen werkten en doorontwikkelden, dan was er nu waarschijnlijk niet zoveel (ca. 6000 kg) van dit materiaal in de Airbus A380 verwerkt. Opvallend is dat bijna elke leerstoel wel een aantal spin-off bedrijven kent, maar het zwaartepunt ligt toch bij de materialen. Bovendien zijn de starters ook de werkgevers van de toekomst voor de huidige studenten, gezamenlijk zijn de spin-off bedrijven goed voor meer dan 500 arbeidsplaatsen.
