Festive opening Aerospace Structures and Materials facilities

Last Friday the official opening of the new and renovated Aerospace Structures and Materials department took place at the faculty of Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft. After inspirational talks and an official opening by the Rector Magnificus of TU Delft, Karel Luyben, tours throughout the facilities took place and the event was concluded with drinks.

The event was well-attended by both external relations as well as TU Delft employees.

After a word of welcome, interim Dean prof. Rinze Benedictus addressed the audience about our goals and ambitions. Prof. Chiara Bisagni talked about design strategies for aircraft, after which prof. Sybrand van der Zwaag elaborated on new materials and unique properties. Finally, Director of Education Aldert Kamp spoke about why education of aerospace engineers should address more skills that are gaining in importance in the engineering practice of the future. The session was concluded with a speech by the Rector Magnificus of TU Delft, Karel Luyben, after which he officially opened the facilities.
