At the Department of Earth Observation and Space Systems research is being conducted in designing spacecraft and spaceborne platforms, and in astrodynamics and satellite systems. Also research into Earth Observation through spaceborne platforms as well as through airborne or terrestrial platforms.

Satellite Navigation - challenging applications in aviation

"On a global scale, millions of GPS (Global Positioning System) chipsets are being sold monthly, primarily for portable car navigation devices and mobile phones. The US GPS is already operational for more than ten years now, and the constellation at present is more than healthy with over thirty satellites. Although to the casual user it may look like that satellite navigation is well established with little or no development at all, the truth is the complete opposite: new satellite systems are emerging, GPS is modernized, and regional augmentations are developed. Why? In order to be able to use satellite navigation also in demanding aviation applications."
