Personal Information

Max Mulder is Assistant Professor at the Control and Simulation division of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology. Together with Rene van Paassen he is responsible for the "human-machine systems" cluster.

Max received his MSc. and Ph.D. (cum laude) in Aerospace Engineering from the Delft University of Technology in 1992 and 1999, respectively, for his work on the cybernetics of perspective flight-path displays.

Max teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in systems and control theory, stochastic processes, avionics, air traffic management and human-machine systems.

His research interests include cybernetics and its use in modelling human perception and performance, and cognitive systems engineering and its application in the design of interfaces for professionals working in the transport domain.

Max has (co)-authored over 130 academic publications, is member of the editorial board of the International Journal on Aviation Psychology (Lawrence Erlbaum), has chaired numerous sessions at international conferences (organized by AiAA, IEEE, IFAC, ISAP), has organized various special sessions (in 2004: Cognitive Systems Engineering, Haptic and Multi-modal interfaces at the IEEE-SMC conference), and was co-chairman of the 2004 European Conference on Human Decision Making and Manual Control. Recently, in July 2005, Max received a 600000 euro research grant in the NWO/STW VIDI programme, for his proposal Cybernetic Approach to Assess Simulator Fidelity.
