Central Case Project
Central Case Project Introduction
The Central Case Project (CCP) provides a learning laboratory for participants to explore and use the competencies learned in the SpaceTech program - space-related markets, space systems engineering, inter-personal skills, business engineering and space applications. It is an activity aimed at the creation of a credible commercial space-related business, by working in a close-knit international team. During the CCP process, each participant is placed at least once into a position of leadership in the team, responsible for ensuring that the team meets certain pre-set goals for that phase of the process, so that all participants can exercise the leadership skills learned during the course.
During the CCP, participants perform an abbreviated market analysis to identify a commercially oriented, space-related product or service. They develop a business concept that is then translated into mission objectives and an appropriate technical system concept. From this point on the team completes the conceptual design of a business case and the associated space and ground assets to provide the necessary products or services for identified customers and users.
Participants exercise the space systems engineering fundamentals with the goal of creating a financially viable business opportunity that they present at the end of the process to a selected group of senior engineers, managers and executives from the space community.
During the CCP, participants learn the relations between mission and system design and investor expectations and to adjust its parameters in order to make their newly conceived business feasible and profitable.
The Central Case Project hence serves as a concrete and practical means to apply and test systems engineering and business engineering techniques in a real-life environment.
The Central Case Project is coached by Dr. Pete Swan (head coach), Edward Ashford, Dr. Jeff Austin and Joerg Kreisel.

CCP sponsorship
Every year, SpaceTech offers to agencies and industry the opportunity for a sponsorship of the Central Case Project. In this case, a sponsor is allowed to define the topic for that particular year in agreement with the SpaceTech mission. Sponsors are welcome and expected to be actively involved and support the team throughout the year. The Central Case Project results in a world-class research product in space systems and business engineering. For further questions please contact spacetechsupport@tudelft.nl.
